About The Role

The Security Officer provides a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, employees, and hospital property by enforcing established security policies and procedures, conducting patrols of assigned areas, identifying potential safety hazards, and responding to unusual or emergency situations in a timely and professional manner. The ideal candidate demonstrates sound judgment, strong communication skills, professionalism, and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service. This position requires the ability to remain calm and effective in challenging situations while maintaining confidentiality and treating all individuals with dignity and respect.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols assigned areas, with particular attention to locations where security or safety concerns have occurred, to promote a safe and secure environment.
  • Identifies and reports unsafe conditions, security concerns, and improperly secured areas or property to help prevent theft, injuries, and damage involving patients, visitors, employees, and hospital property.
  • Responds promptly and professionally to security incidents, complaints, unusual occurrences, and potential criminal activity.
  • Investigates thefts, shortages, and complaints involving potential criminal misconduct by gathering information and interviewing individuals involved in specific incidents.
  • Notifies appropriate law enforcement agencies of potential or actual civil or criminal misconduct and detains suspicious individuals when appropriate and authorized.
  • When applicable and authorized under the State Special Police license, makes arrests and participates in subsequent court proceedings as required.
  • Prepares complete, accurate, and timely written reports and maintains detailed incident documentation and security logs.
  • Keeps supervisors informed of significant incidents, security concerns, and other situations requiring attention or follow-up.
  • Maintains accountability for valuables, property, and evidence placed in the officer's custody, ensuring proper safekeeping and documentation.
  • Operates as a dispatcher using integrated, state-of-the-art security systems to coordinate personnel responses to security incidents, requests for assistance, and emergency situations.
  • Responds to calls for assistance and coordinates appropriate security resources while maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Assists with workplace violence and domestic violence response efforts, as appropriate.
  • Responds to medical emergencies and other urgent situations, providing assistance within the scope of training and authorization.
  • When authorized and appropriately trained, assists with the restraint of patients in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Supports the protection of dignitaries and other individuals requiring enhanced security measures.
  • Assists with the control and direction of pedestrian and vehicular traffic as needed.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and safeguards sensitive information at all times.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service and fosters a professional, respectful, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, employees, and colleagues.
  • May voluntarily participate in departmental committees, task forces, teams, and other initiatives that support safety, security, and operational excellence.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Ability to work a rotating schedule, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree (Criminal Justice preferred). This role does not accept experience in lieu of a degree.

Licenses and Credentials: Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License].

Experience: Experience in hospital, security/police, emergency medical, or customer services (3-5 years preferred).

  • Intermediate computer skills: typing and use of database software.

Pay
