Security Officer

About the role
Uniformed Security Officers protect the site’s building, grounds, assets, employees, students, and visitors against criminal activity, accidents, fires, and natural disasters. They also provide outstanding customer service to customers, clients, and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Guard entry and exit points of client buildings and grounds.
- Conduct foot and/or vehicle patrols of interior and exterior areas to ensure safety and security.
- Prevent unauthorized persons from entering restricted areas.
- Verify employee, vendor, and visitor identifications.
- Monitor for suspicious people, packages, and activities.
- Follow site-specific post guidelines.
- Document daily activities and report all incidents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED).
- Must be at least 21 years old and hold a Michigan CPL or LEOSA cardholder certification for armed security work.
- No felony convictions (per MCL 338.106010(1)(c)).
- No misdemeanor convictions related to dishonesty, fraud, impersonation of law enforcement, assault, weapons, unauthorized sale of information or evidence, controlled substances (including marijuana), or two or more alcohol-related offenses (per MCL 338.106010(1)(c)).
- Must pass a drug screening at hire and randomly thereafter (including for marijuana).
- Must adhere to the company’s Uniform and Appearance policy, presenting a professional image.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including de-escalation abilities.
- Fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Willingness to become CPR/First Aid/AED certified and capable of administering emergency care.
- Ability to move quickly, including running short distances, in emergency situations.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk long distances (including stairs) for 8–12 hour shifts.
- Ability to work indoors or outdoors in all seasons.
- Ability to hear conversations (in person or via 2-way radio) in noisy environments.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (70 lbs. for armed security officers).
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
Benefits
Part-time employees may qualify for benefits after one year of employment, averaging 20+ hours per week. Eligibility is reviewed annually in November. Benefits may be lost if availability changes and scheduling needs are not met.
Pay
Rate of pay: $20.00/hour.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, various days.
- Part-time hours, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
