Security Officer

Minimum qualifications and required certifications must be obtained within specified timeframes from date of hire or transfer.

About the role

The Security Officer performs safety and security tours according to established Security Department Management Plans and Standard Operating Procedures. The Security Officer provides and preserves a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff at AtlantiCare campuses and facilities.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates the ability to perform the department-specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

Requirements

• High School degree or equivalent.
• 1 year of security officer experience preferred, preferably within the healthcare environment.
• Bilingual abilities preferred.
• Knowledge of PCs and related applications required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other security-related applications/programs required.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.

Qualifications

Education

• High School degree or equivalent.

Licenses/Certifications

• FEMA Certification: Incident Command System (IS) required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer:
  • IS 100 Introduction to Incident Command System
  • IS 700 National Incident Management System (NIMS)
  • IS 907 Active Shooter Training
• IAHSS certification required within 12 months of hire or transfer.
• CPI required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer; once obtained, must be kept current at all times.
• AtlantiCare Security Department Hazardous Materials Training required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
• American Heart Association BLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.

Current incumbents are required to obtain all FEMA requirements by 9/30/2026. In the event a required course is no longer available, an updated or comparable course may be substituted with approval from the AVP of the Department of Public Safety and HR.

Work Environment

• Potential for exposure to hazards and risks of the hospital environment, including infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury.
• Exposure to all weather conditions during patrols and post.
• Moderate to heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling; continuous walking and standing.
