Security Installation Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Security Installation Specialist II to install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot electronic security systems in commercial, industrial, and critical facility environments. This individual will work independently and alongside project teams to support the deployment of access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and related low-voltage systems while ensuring quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with security system installations, low-voltage cabling, device terminations, and system commissioning, along with the ability to read blueprints and technical documentation. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Urbandale, IA. The role is fully onsite.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot low-voltage security systems.
• Deploy and configure access control systems, CCTV/video surveillance systems, intrusion detection systems, intercom systems, and related devices.
• Pull, route, dress, label, and test copper and fiber optic cabling.
• Install security hardware including card readers, cameras, door contacts, motion detectors, locks, request-to-exit devices, and control panels.
• Perform system programming, commissioning, and functional testing.
• Read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, schematics, and project documentation.
• Coordinate with project managers, general contractors, electricians, and customers to complete installations on schedule.
• Document installation activities, testing results, and project updates.
• Troubleshoot system faults and perform break/fix support as needed.
• Ensure work is completed in compliance with industry standards, customer requirements, and safety regulations.

What Success Looks Like: Delivers high-quality installations with minimal rework. Completes projects safely and on schedule. Maintains accurate project documentation. Effectively resolves technical issues in the field. Builds positive relationships with customers and project stakeholders.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience installing commercial security systems.
• Experience with one or more major security platforms such as: LenelS2, Genetec, Avigilon, Software House CCURE, Honeywell, Bosch, Milestone.
• Knowledge of access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection systems.
• Experience terminating and testing low-voltage cabling.
• Ability to use testing equipment and hand tools.
• Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and wiring schematics.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Qualifications

• Industry certifications such as: Lenel Certified Associate, Genetec Certification, Avigilon Certification, BICSI Technician, NICET, OSHA 10 or OSHA 30.
• Experience working in data centers, healthcare facilities, government facilities, or other critical environments.
• Fiber optic installation and testing experience.
