About the Role
MHA is seeking a Security Guard/Receptionist to join our Prospect House Program in East Orange, New Jersey. Prospect House is an adult day treatment/partial care program serving adults 18 and over diagnosed with severe and persistent mental health conditions. The program helps individuals manage their diagnoses and reduce re-hospitalization risk through a highly regarded psycho-social rehabilitation program.
Responsibilities
- Open the building at 7:00 a.m. and ensure facility readiness for daily operations.
- Disable security alarm and activate necessary building systems.
- Turn on lights and office equipment (copiers, coffee maker, etc.).
- Unlock and open all activity areas.
- Check thermostats to ensure appropriate building comfort.
- Unlock first and third parking lot gates; close and secure third parking lot gate at 9:00 a.m.
- Greet members upon arrival and supervise/assist the sign-in process.
- Greet visitors, ensure completion of visitor log, and notify appropriate staff prior to visitor entry.
- Accept and sign for deliveries; notify appropriate staff for distribution.
- Assist Administrative Assistant with answering telephones as needed.
- Provide emergency transportation for members and complete assigned errands as needed.
- Coordinate and document monthly fire drills in collaboration with the Program Director.
- Review and sign van transportation sheets daily.
- Close the building at the end of the day, ensuring all security and safety procedures are followed.
- Turn off lights and equipment (copiers, appliances, etc.).
- Close and lock all activity areas and offices.
- Ensure all windows are closed.
- Check thermostats and reset to 68°F as required.
- Ensure all exit doors are secured.
- Inspect bathrooms and the kitchen to ensure no water leaks or running water.
- Set the alarm system and lock facility upon departure.
- Ensure that the first and third parking lots are secured and locked.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
Requirements
- Previous experience in security, corrections, or law enforcement strongly preferred.
- Ability to work holidays and at least one evening per week required.
- Valid Driver’s License in good standing required.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for members and visitors.

Pay
Annual base rate: $42,000
