About the role
Illinois Alarm Service is seeking a dedicated Installation Technician to support the continued growth and technical excellence of our organization. This is a key field position for a professional who is dependable, technically capable, detail-oriented, and motivated to perform at a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation of fire alarm, intrusion alarm, CCTV, access control, and related low-voltage systems
- Mounting panels, devices, conduit, and associated hardware
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, riser diagrams, and wiring schematics
- Understanding and applying AC and DC electrical principles during installation and troubleshooting
- Ensuring installations meet applicable codes and AHJ requirements
- Maintaining clean, organized, and professional job sites
- Completing accurate documentation, device lists, and close-out materials
- Coinciding with Project Managers, office staff, and other trades
- Participating in scheduled on-call rotations and responding to after-hours subscriber service requests when assigned
- Maintaining company vehicles, tools, lifts, and issued equipment in proper working order
What We're Looking For
- Strong technical aptitude and working knowledge of AC and DC current, voltage, resistance, and proper meter usage
- Ability to read and follow construction drawings and system specifications
- Consistent attendance and daily reliability
- Able to manage time efficiently and complete work without constant supervision
- Professional communication with subscribers, inspectors, and coworkers
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and respond when scheduled
- Valid Illinois driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Able to pass a criminal background check
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid Illinois PERC card

- Prefer a slow-paced or lightly supervised environment
- Struggle with punctuality or consistent attendance
- Prefers narrowly defined job duties without flexibility
- Are uncomfortable working in construction environments
- Are unwilling to participate in after-hours on-call rotation
- Are not comfortable working at heights or lifting materials
Preferred Experience
- Minimum two (2) years of low-voltage installation experience
- Commercial fire alarm installation experience
- Access control and IP-based CCTV experience
- NICET Certification (Fire Alarm Systems preferred)
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Lift certification
- Manufacturer certifications
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds
- Ability to climb ladders and work at elevated heights
- Ability to operate scissor lifts and other approved lifting equipment
- Ability to drive company vehicles in all weather conditions
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in construction environments
- Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and perform overhead work

- Paid Time Off (PTO): Five (5) days of PTO issued on day one of employment in accordance with Illinois law
- Vacation: Five (5) paid vacation days available after one (1) year of employment
Work Schedule & Expectations
- Primary schedule: Monday through Friday
- Start times may vary based on jobsite requirements
- Participation in scheduled on-call rotation is required
- Occasional overtime required based on project demands
- Professionalism, reliability, and accountability are essential

- Must currently hold, or be able to obtain, a valid Illinois Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC)
