About the role

The Firefighter-EMT is responsible for the safety and security of the facilities they protect. They act as a visible deterrent to crime and client rule infractions, detect and report suspicious, unsafe or criminal acts, and respond to emergency incidents.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a visible deterrent to crime and client rule infractions
  • Detect and report suspicious, unsafe or criminal acts
  • Respond to emergency incidents, fight fires, mitigate hazardous material incidents, rescue trapped persons in confined spaces, and administer basic life support (BLS) treatment
  • Advance hose lines, operate fire apparatus pump, safely operate power tools, climb ladders, and wear firefighter protective gear including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA)
  • Work in various environments such as cold weather, rain/snow or heat
  • Occasionally lift or carry up to 80 pounds
  • Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during shift
  • Stand or walk on various surfaces for long periods of time

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years of age with high school diploma or equivalent
  • Possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner
  • Licenses and certifications:
    • Health License as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or higher
    • CPR/AED Certification
    • Hazardous Materials Technician Certification (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120)
    • Confined Space and Rope Rescue Certification (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146)
    • Additional state requirements for a firefighter EMT

Qualifications

  • Pass physical and Fit Test required for Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
  • Obtain and maintain annual Hazardous Materials Technician Certification (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120)
  • Obtain and maintain annual Confined Space and Rope Rescue Certification (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146)
  • Successfully complete a background investigation and a drug screen in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws

Skills

  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • Intermediate computer skills to operate innovative, wireless technology at client specific sites
  • Ability to handle crisis situations at the client site, calmly and efficiently
