About the Role
Under the direction of the Security Services Manager, establishes NGMC Braselton Hospital security and property protection programs. Directs and maintains programs on site and through subordinate supervisors. Interviews applicants, recommends hiring and directs the training of all security personnel. Oversees day-to-day security operations, scheduling, and regularly re-assesses the facility and security needs of the Braselton campus. Manages security reporting systems, alarm/access control systems, and security equipment. Maintains oversight of the Security Department budget.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Director/Manager of Security in establishing and maintaining procedures along with fiscal planning for the activities of the department.
- Assists with establishing and maintaining budget items, including operational and staffing levels, including special events and details.
- Assists with general duties, special instructions, incidents surrounding confrontational situations, and improved customer service.
- Identifies each patient’s age-specific needs and promotes a secure environment needed by the group.
- Confers with representatives of management to formulate procedures for handling special situations.
- Informs the manager or director regarding circumstances or situations which have or may have serious impact on the hospital.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and applicable laws, including planning, assigning, and directing work; shift scheduling; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Supervises staff including interviewing, making recommendations for hiring, training all personnel, appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining personnel.
- Assesses needs, develops, implements, and coordinates a security management plan to ensure the hospital meets OSHA, NFPA, CMS, DNV, federal, state, and local regulations and standards as related to security.
- Performs and directs safety and security rounds of the hospital, grounds, and outlying buildings.
- Utilizes electronic surveillance, alarms, and CCTV systems.
- Ensures that subordinate officers provide escort services, traffic, and parking control.
- Works with the risk management department to lower liability risk.
- Collects security-related data and reports the information to the Security Manager, Security Director, Occupational Health, and Risk Management.
- Documents incidents and reviews and corrects subordinate incident reports.
- Designs, performs, and assigns duties related to fire prevention, safety issues, emergency preparedness, and workplace violence.
- Completes safety and security surveys (e.g., lighting, emergency phones, alarms, and monitoring systems).
- Assists the Security Director/Manager in developing, implementing, and directing training programs to ensure compliance with federal guidelines, state license requirements, DNV, and OSHA guidelines.
- Coordinates training programs with outside agencies, accredited programs, and certified instructors, covering topics such as new hire training, crises intervention, workplace violence, continuing education, re-certification, and liability/legal issues.
- Correctly utilizes and ensures staff under supervision correctly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment.
Requirements
- Valid GA Driver’s License.
- Current BLS Certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- High School diploma or equivalent with at least five (5) years of experience or a Bachelor’s Degree.
- Minimum of five (5) years as a security officer or police officer.
- Knowledge of budget management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of various hospital security programs (physical security/access control, patrols, investigations, emergency response, and reporting standards).
- Intermediate computer skills and familiarity with all MS Office Suite applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to conduct security surveys, interviews, and establish programs to meet needs.
- Ability to learn liability laws and work with hospital leadership, staff, and risk management to reduce costs, identify threats/hazards, and develop mitigation strategies.
- Ability to interpret OSHA, NFPA, CMS, DNV, and all applicable laws and regulations related to security to formulate and implement policies.
- Training in the following areas:
- Managing the aggressive patient (CIT): De-escalation Training
- ASP Tactical Baton Training
- Firearms Training
- Hospital Defensive Tactics Training
- Basic Taser Training
