About the Role

Spring Grove Hospital Center is the largest psychiatric hospital operated by the State of Maryland, with 377 beds. Located in Catonsville—previously named by Money Magazine as one of the best places to live—our 180-acre wooded campus offers a college-like setting, conveniently near Washington D.C., Baltimore, and BWI Airport. The main purpose of this full-time position is to serve as a Maryland Approved Security Attendant Officer, implementing crime scene procedures, evidence retention, and completing comprehensive investigative reports. This role also involves serving as a liaison with STIU Maryland Certified Police Officers/Supervisors and the Maryland State Police.

Responsibilities

  • Implement crime scene procedures and evidence retention protocols.
  • Complete comprehensive investigative reports.
  • Serve as a liaison between STIU Maryland Certified Police Officers/Supervisors and the Maryland State Police.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education (as described in the Correctional Training Commission regulation).
  • Two years of experience providing security to patients, inmates, or youths committed by courts to psychiatric hospitals, correctional facilities, or juvenile detention centers.
  • U.S. citizenship or Resident Alien status.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation, oral interview, and physical examination.
  • Must meet selection standards and successfully complete training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a Correctional Officer during the probationary period (per Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209).
  • Employees may be required to possess a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license; some positions may require a specific class of license for operating large vans to transport patients.
  • Must provide a telephone number for contact purposes.
  • Subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09.

Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Correctional Officer/Specialist classifications or Internment/Resettlement Specialist and Correctional specialty codes in the security field on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
