SECURITY ATTENDANT I

Location: MDH, Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center, Jessup, MD

About the Role

This is an entry-level position focused on the security and care of patients at Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center. The facility provides care to offenders, patients, or residents with behavioral health diagnoses who have been judged not criminally responsible for committing felonies, as well as individuals deemed too violent for a regular hospital or residential setting and who pose a danger to themselves or others. The role does not involve supervising other positions and operates under close supervision from a Security Attendant Supervisor.

This position is assigned to day, evening, night, or rotating shifts and may require being called in during emergencies or staffing shortages. Duties may include moving and positioning patients or applying physical restraints.

Responsibilities

• Learn and perform security and patient care duties under close supervision.
• Assist in maintaining a secure environment for patients and staff.
• Respond to emergencies and staffing shortages as required.
• May be required to move, position, or physically restrain patients.

Requirements

• High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate accepted by the Maryland State Board of Education (as outlined in Correctional Training Commission regulation).
• No prior experience required.
• Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license if assigned duties requiring the operation of a vehicle (e.g., transporting patients in large vans).
• Must meet selection standards and complete training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a Correctional Officer during the probationary period, including:
  • U.S. citizenship or Resident Alien status.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Completed background investigation.
  • Oral interview.
  • Physical examination.
• Must provide a contact telephone number for the facility.
• Subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09.
