About the role

The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is seeking School Security Assistants (SSA's) to provide a safe environment for students and staff in Madison middle and high schools. The position involves assisting in maintaining order, responding to emergencies, and enforcing school regulations.

Responsibilities

• Affirms and enforces the MMSD Conduct and Discipline Code and other school regulations
• Works closely with the Madison Police Department and other emergency responders
• Assists in conducting investigations and reporting incidents
• Provides first aid and intervenes in altercations
• Coordinates with the Security Coordinator and Principals
• Controls and identifies loiterers, trespassers, and unauthorized people
• Participates in emergency drills and provides guidance to students
• Patrols school grounds and offsite locations as directed
• Operates security equipment as directed
• Writes and compiles reports as needed

Requirements

• Highly competent and committed to student success and safety
• Ability to work under stress and react appropriately in emergency situations
• Cross-cultural experience or commitment to improve cultural competence
• Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and availability of a properly insured vehicle
• CPR/AED certification
• Security experience preferred
• Juvenile justice system knowledge preferred

• Write accurate and complete reports
• Knowledgeable on security equipment
