Security Assistant - West - 1.0 FTE - 26-27 SY

About the role

The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is seeking School Security Assistants (SSAs) to provide a safe environment for students and staff in Madison middle and high schools. Essential duties include maintaining order, responding to emergencies, and enforcing school conduct and discipline codes.

Responsibilities

• Affirms students' safety through crisis intervention and first aid
• Works closely with law enforcement and emergency responders
• Controls and identifies loiterers, trespassers, and unauthorized people
• Coordinates with the Madison Police Department and other agencies
• Enforces the MMSD Conduct and Discipline Code and other school regulations
• Patrols school grounds and facilities as directed
• Performs other duties to ensure a safe school environment

Requirements

• Highly competent and committed to student success and safety
• Ability to work well under stress and react appropriately in emergencies
• Cross-cultural experience or commitment to improve cultural competence
• Valid Wisconsin driver's license and available insured vehicle
• CPR/AED certification
• Prior security experience preferred

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and background check
• Must be able to write accurate and complete reports
• Must be able to work in a diverse work environment

Skills

• Excellent communication skills
• Knowledge of crisis intervention and emergency medical procedures
• Knowledge of the juvenile justice system
