Section Chief of Neurology

About the role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the quality and timeliness of the services provided, customer satisfaction, as well as compliance with the standards of accrediting bodies such as the Joint Commission and the Inspector General's Combined Assessment Program.
• Collaborate with other services as appropriate.
• Provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings, including, but not limited to, specific neurology clinics, neurology procedures, and for inpatient medical, surgical, and critical care services.
• Provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health and treatment of critical illnesses.
• Establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team.
• Coordinate and communicate the treatment plan with inpatient and outpatient health care providers that have requested their consultative services.
• Ensure operations and compliance with Veterans Health Administration guidelines for Neurology Section of Medical Service.
• Manage the schedules of employees within the neurology section; ensure consistent, up to date, call schedule coverage and posting; hold at least monthly section meetings; allocate resources to ensure adequate coverage/availability of clinical programs, testing, and consultation coverage; and direct and develop quality improvement (QI) processes and projects.
• Maintain involvement in matters concerning clinic productivity, relevant performance measures, Quality and Patient Safety oversight, as well as process improvements (system redesigns).
• Remain privileged and practicing in medical services.

Requirements

• Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
