About the role

The role involves managing the daily operations of the Training Division, serving as the ACIC Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC), implementing training programs for employees, and maintaining all division records and certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and coordinates classes, required training, certification, and recertification for current employees with the Sheriff’s Office; ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Maintains calendar of training events and coordinates activities related to training; schedules appointments, makes travel arrangements, and determines total cost.
  • Maintains employee training requirements, schedules training to ensure requirements are met in a timely manner.
  • Answers calls from employees, supervisors, or administrative staff; answers questions or directs to the appropriate division or department.
  • Coordinates and administers required training and certification courses for newly hired employees within the department.
  • Processes and maintains personnel and training files for reserve deputies, Volunteers in Police Service (VIPs), and interns within the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with area agencies to develop resources for the community and training instructors.
  • Attends conferences and committee meetings related to ACIC, training, VIPS, and Chaplains.
  • Acts as a notary for the training division as required.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of the Arkansas State Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (CLEST) rules and training requirements and certifications.
  • Considerable knowledge of the certification requirements for ACIC users.
  • Good knowledge of office practices, procedures, equipment, and terminology.
  • Ability to conduct research, compile data, and prepare materials for trainings.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, agencies, and the general public.
  • Ability to read and interpret laws, legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain detailed filing system.
  • Ability to attend work regularly and reliably.
  • Skill in the operation of a computer.
  • Digital dexterity is necessary for keyboard and calculator operation.
  • Visual acuity is necessary for use of a computer screen.
  • Ability to orally communicate effectively, both in person and by telephone.

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school or GED equivalency with college level courses in Criminal Justice, Education, or a related field; considerable clerical, training, or related work experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
