Secondary Summer School Paraeducator
Position Summary
Working primarily with students who are not in special education, presents material and activities to improve skills in assigned areas that may include reading, writing, math, computers and/or vocational education. Works individually or in small groups. Records grades and other measures of students' progress and behavior.
Minimum Qualifications
- A typical way to obtain these would be: High School diploma.
- Some prior experience working with school age children preferred.
- CPR, first aid and district approved behavioral management techniques may be required.
- Must have either an AA degree, or 48 semester hours, or be willing to take and pass the WorkKey Exam.
Knowledge
- Files and record keeping.
- Personal computers and related software.
- School age children's behavior.
Ability
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Provide instructional assistance in assigned areas.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Operate a personal computer and related software.
- Maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and parents.
Compensation
This is a temporary hourly position, working less than 30 hours per week from July 24 - August 7, 2026. The starting salary is $24.40 per hour. Summer hourly work is entered solely for the purposes of operating in an hourly position with JSD outside of the instructional school calendar. Summer employees who work more than 15 hours a week between the dates of May 26 - August 14, 2026 will provide services for a term of no more than 30 days within a classification. Selected hire will be fingerprinted at applicant's expense and fingerprints forwarded to the Alaska State Troopers and the FBI for a records check.
