Secondary Special Education Paraprofessional
Job Summary
This employee is responsible for assisting the classroom teachers in the implementation of program's established criteria.
Qualifications/Education/Certification
- Bachelor’s Degree, Associate’s Degree, or Paraprofessional Certificate from the appropriate agency
Performance Responsibilities
- Assisting the Teacher in preparing instructional materials to be used in the program
- Assisting in arranging the learning environment, including assembling and putting materials on the bulletin board and arranging center areas
- Working with assigned children under the teacher's direction
- Administering and scoring appropriate screenings and assessments required by the program
- Performing other duties as assigned or required by the program
- Establishing and maintaining high standards of student behavior consistent with district and school policies
- Assisting students with daily activities such as during mealtimes, dressing and toileting
- Attending enrichment classes with students such as art, physical education, Spanish and music as needed
- Attending school-wide assemblies or special programs as needed
- Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment, and facilities
- Supervising the students throughout the day
- Completing record keeping tasks assigned by the teacher
- Riding the school bus as needed to monitor and assist with the safe transportation of assigned children
- Participating in Program In-service Activities
Physical Effort and Work Environment
- Movement throughout the classroom is generally necessary to facilitate learning (e.g., standing, walking, stooping, bending, sitting, and/or kneeling)
- Light lifting of materials and other objects associated with a classroom environment is required (e.g., books, teaching aids, up to approximately 20 – 40 lbs.)
- Lifting of students to help with dressing or toileting as needed
- Rare exposure to blood or body fluids
- Regular attendance is required for this position
