About the role

AIS is a 3K to Grade 12 IB World School located in Atlanta, Georgia. Our Buckhead Campus and Sandy Springs Campus offer a globally-minded, inquiry-driven education that prepares students to lead with purpose and integrity. The Science Lab Manager oversees the operational, technical, and safety systems of the Secondary School Science laboratories.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Classroom Logistics & Operational Support
    • Serve as a primary responder for immediate classroom resource needs and laboratory support requests.
    • Support teachers in maintaining organized, functional, and well-stocked laboratory and classroom spaces.
    • Regularly audit and restock classroom and laboratory supplies, including safety equipment and commonly used materials.
    • Maintain laboratory readiness and communicate resource or maintenance needs to the Science Lab Manager.
  • Support Laboratory Preparation & Breakdown
    • Prepare equipment, materials, and chemical reagents for laboratory activities as directed by the Science Lab Manager and science faculty.
    • Support laboratory setup, breakdown, and cleanup processes.
    • Ensure equipment is cleaned, maintained, and returned to appropriate storage locations following use.
    • Aid in the movement and distribution of laboratory materials between preparation spaces and classrooms.
  • Maintain Equipment & Resources
    • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on laboratory equipment.
    • Clean, sterilize, and maintain laboratory equipment and glassware according to established procedures.
    • Assist the Science Lab Manager with specialized laboratory preparations and technical tasks.
    • Support inventory tracking and organization of laboratory materials and equipment.
  • Support Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Assist in maintaining laboratory safety standards and procedures.
    • Ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and other required safety documentation are available and accessible.
    • Support safe storage, handling, and disposal procedures for laboratory materials.
    • Respond to laboratory incidents and concerns in accordance with established school safety protocols.
    • Absorb annual inventory audits of chemicals and laboratory equipment.
  • Support Teaching & Learning
    • Assist teachers during laboratory activities when requested.
    • Support student safety and proper equipment use during practical learning experiences.
    • Aid in science fairs, research projects, exhibitions, and other departmental initiatives as assigned.
    • Contribute to the smooth operation of inquiry-based science learning experiences.
  • Engage in Professional Learning & Collaboration
    • Attend department meetings and required school professional learning activities.
    • Collaborate positively with faculty, staff, and operational teams.
    • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and a commitment to student safety and wellbeing.
    • Support the mission, vision, and values of Atlanta International School.

Requirements

  • Educational Background & Professional Experience
    • Associate’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in a science-related field preferred.
    • Experience working in a laboratory, school, university, healthcare, or related environment.
    • Experience supporting laboratory operations or scientific equipment preferred.
  • Specialized Skills
    • Basic knowledge of scientific equipment, materials, and laboratory processes, and creation of simple reagent solutions.
    • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices, including cleaning chemical spills, and equipment handling.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Ability to follow detailed procedures accurately and consistently.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.

    • Ability to lift and move laboratory materials and equipment safely.
    • Ability to move between multiple laboratory and classroom spaces throughout the school day.
