Job Purpose
The Secondary Packaging Lead is responsible for overseeing daily operations of secondary packaging lines, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant production. This role provides hands-on leadership to operators, technicians, supports troubleshooting efforts, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to maximize equipment uptime and overall line performance.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Follow all SOPs set forth by Nephron Pharmaceuticals.
- Lead and coordinate day-to-day of secondary packaging operations.
- Serve as the first point of contact for operational issues, escalating when necessary.
- Support troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical and automation-related faults to minimize downtime.
- Ensure adherence to cGMP, safety, and quality standards.
- Monitor line performance and drive improvements in OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
- Review pass downs from prior shift and assign appropriate resources to improve or maintain line efficiencies that meet secondary packaging standards.
- Ensure level and/or 2 and/or 3 preventative maintenance on automated packaging lines and area responsible equipment are performed on time and documented.
- Supplemental Functions:
- Contact vendor(s) for quotes and filling out Purchase Requisition for parts needed for Secondary Packaging equipment.
- Supervise/oversee day-to-day maintenance duties including Preventative Maintenance and work orders and logbook entries.
- Afford Packaging Manager and/or Operations Management as needed.
Job Specifications And Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years maintenance technician level 2
- Knowledge of the Pharmaceutical Industry preferred
- Specific expertise, skills and knowledge within maintenance gained through education and experience
- Knowledge & Skills
- Technical background preferred, with knowledge of cGMP, and FDA regulations
- 1–3 years of experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred
- Strong understanding of document control procedures, standards, and best practices
- Competent in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Knowledgeable in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) advanced features and workflows
- Familiar with document management software, including SharePoint
- Effective time management skills including prioritizing and scheduling
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities to work with cross-functional, fast-paced teams
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and meet deadlines
- Familiar with relevant industry regulations and compliance standards
- Discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information
- Strong critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects or assignments simultaneously
Education/Experience
- 3-7 years of related experience in packaging operations, preferably in pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing
- High school diploma required; technical degree or certification preferred
- Demonstrated leadership or lead experience in a production environment
- Experience with troubleshooting electrical, mechanical and automation equipment
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
This position requires bending, typing, lifting (up to 40 lbs.), standing, sitting and walking throughout the facility.
