RINA is seeking a Senior Marine Surveyor to join its team in Seattle, North America Marine Division.
About the role
The Senior Surveyor serves as an experienced and knowledgeable professional within the organization, applying expertise in maritime Rules, Regulations, and industry principles. The role ensures the accuracy, quality, and continuous improvement of surveying processes.
Responsibilities
- Act as a professional specialist, applying in-depth knowledge of maritime Rules, Regulations, and industry concepts; stay abreast of new developments and recommend changes to surveying processes and safety programs.
- Conduct routine surveys on classed ships, offshore installations, or marine assets to ensure compliance with classification and statutory requirements; prepare technically accurate and timely reports.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate various phases of surveying work; monitor service quality and provide guidance to less experienced surveyors.
- Engage with clients to solve problems within your area of expertise, ensuring client satisfaction through effective communication and issue resolution.
- Provide guidance and training to less experienced surveyors, contributing to the development and improvement of the surveying team’s skills and knowledge.
- Ensure the maintenance of quality, content, consistency, and continuity of work performed.
- Uphold the highest ethical standards in all professional interactions, ensuring integrity, transparency, and fairness in survey processes.
- Perform new building surveys, including:
- Assessing the suitability of certified materials and products.
- Ensuring hull, machinery, and equipment comply with rules and regulations through inspections, tests, and trials.
- Issuing Certificates, Reports, Records, and Status in compliance with rules and regulations.
- Perform ship in-service surveys, including:
- Assessing maintenance compliance of hull, machinery, and equipment through inspections, tests, and trials.
- Following up on repair works to assign new periods of class and validity to statutory Certificates.
- Attending major conversion works in accordance with rules and regulations.
- Identifying deficiencies and determining whether immediate repair is necessary or a condition may be issued.
- Following up on repair work or outstanding conditions as required by rules and regulations.
- Assessing whether deficiencies may be linked to potential failures of the Ship Management System.
- Endorsing Certificates and issuing Reports and Status in compliance with rules and regulations.
- Conduct Marine Management Systems audits.
- Perform testing activities and service suppliers/manufacturers certification, including:
- Assessing the suitability of certified materials and products in compliance with applicable rules.
- Issuing Certificates and preparing Reports and Status in compliance with procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Surveyor or 6 years’ experience in engineering or inspection/survey fields with an IACS member Classification Society.
- Understanding of RINA’s strategic technical positioning in the marine industry.
- Proficiency in English commensurate with classification, statutory certification, and related services.
- Ability to develop a working knowledge of RINA Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and the RINA Employee Safety Policy.
- Ability to understand engineering plans and knowledge of shipbuilding practices and ship operations.
- Knowledge of ship engineering systems and machinery.
- Knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities.
- Knowledge of related technical interfaces required for group project work.
