About the role

The Quality Assurance Engineer will initially focus on Safety Applications and Programs group, but will support all technology, including internally developed, as well as, COTS systems. This role ensures the suitability and readiness for release of applications and application components, documents and manages components through development, testing, and implementation cycles, and supports change management activities.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the planning, development, and implementation of automated business systems.
  • Establishes test criteria for defect assessment metrics and reports results to team members and management.
  • Develops, executes, and documents unit, integration, and acceptance testing, assessing adherence to functional requirements and performance.
  • Develops, documents, and implements both “white box” and “black box” testing.
  • Creates automated test scripts using knowledge of UNIX and Windows scripting.
  • Interprets system and application logs during troubleshooting and uses automated testing tool packages.
  • Ensures high-quality products for the client community.
  • Manages source code control and configuration control processes.
  • Identifies security and application access needs for departments and agencies, and assists with security definitions and profiles.
  • Manages the technology “Change Management” process, preparing all “Request For Change” documents.
  • Documents and tracks encountered defects and system bugs.
  • Coordinates customer satisfaction surveys and ensures team compliance with quality assurance goals.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Mathematics or a related field.
  • Three years of professional level experience on an integrated technology software system development and/or production support team.
  • Experience working in the UNIX and Microsoft Windows environments.
  • Ability to write intermediate-level SQL (Structured Query Language) statements and understand advanced SQL code.
  • Experience in requirements validation/requirements traceability matrices (RTM’s).

Qualifications

  • A high degree of initiative and attention to detail.
  • Experience as a Lead in a QA environment.
  • Experience creating Quality Assurance Procedures.
  • Experience with automated testing tools.
  • Experience with RCS and/or Visual Source Safe.
  • Experience working in the UNIX and Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Experience writing UNIX shell scripts.
  • Experience with UML.
  • Experience setting standards for test plans, test cases, and test reporting.
