Purpose
The Grounds Maintenance Seasonal Yard Worker maintains school grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.
Responsible to:
- Grounds and Outdoor Facilities Supervisor
Schedule, Level 1
Classification of Employment: Non-Exempt
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent, unless actively enrolled in high school.
- Valid Kansas drivers license.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain school grounds in top condition by assisting permanent employees.
- Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the school district.
- Able to work with a team or independently to handle tasks as assigned.
- Safely operate equipment and machinery as necessary.
- Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires the ability to sit, stand and/or walk for prolonged periods.
- Requires to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Requires the ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, bend, turn and reach.
- Requires the ability to climb ladders and balance above ground level.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all environmental conditions.
- Must be able to work in noisy and changing environments.
- Must be able to work in and around dust, fumes and odors.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
General Responsibilities:
- Aid in promoting the safety, health and comfort of students and employees on school grounds.
- Keep all district properties neatly mowed and trimmed.
- Assist with seeding and fertilizing as necessary.
- Collect trash and clean areas as necessary.
- Prepare athletic fields for practices and games.
- Assist in painting of parking lots and playground equipment.
- Maintain all equipment (includes checking oil and fuel prior to operation).
- Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance projects.
- Utilize all applicable personal protective equipment.
- Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
- Move equipment and materials within and between buildings.
- Other duties as assigned by the maintenance supervisor, which are consistent with this position.
