About the role
Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Spout Attendant is responsible for the proper handling, filling, and labelling of product in the Milling area. The role requires completing clear and accurate documentation, maintaining housekeeping standards, and communicating effectively with Mill Leads and co-workers to ensure continuous production of a quality and safe product. A strong emphasis on cross-contamination prevention, General Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), workplace safety, and food safety regulations is required.
Responsibilities
- Monitor assigned spout(s) to ensure drum labels correspond to the product, are properly placed, and specified weights are achieved.
- Complete the Mill Monitoring Label Verification checklist at the assigned location during floor rotation.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are properly tethered and stored in designated areas during and at the end of each shift.
- Report any safety or equipment issues to your Lead or Supervisor.
- Accurately fill products into drums to correct fill weight and ensure product seal integrity to prevent spoilage or degradation.
- Inspect drums for cleanliness, foreign material, and defects prior to filling.
- Verify all product is properly labeled and all documentation is accurately completed.
- Fill products in accordance with cross-contamination prevention procedures, GMPs, and safety regulations.
- Maintain housekeeping standards, including sweeping floors, upper-level platforms, discarding waste, weighing onion waste, and keeping work areas clean.
- Participate in employee-related trainings and compliance activities.
- Keep the damaged drum holding area and drum room neat, organized, and ensure walkways, doors, and emergency exits are clear.
- Report any safety, product quality, or mechanical issues to your Lead or Supervisor promptly.
- Assist others as needed or as instructed by your Lead or Supervisor.
- Wear specified personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times while working in designated areas (e.g., work boots, gloves, eye protection, ear plugs).
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
Requirements
- Capable of lifting 50 lbs consistently throughout a shift.
- Capable of safely maneuvering drums weighing up to 250 lbs.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Effective communication skills with co-workers and department Leads.
- Ability to work overtime as required.
- Understanding and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safety regulations.
- Ability to work in a dusty, fast-paced, and noisy production environment.
- Able to ascend and descend stairs.
- Ability to take direction from department leads and work in a team-driven atmosphere.
- Ability to wear and use all assigned personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, gloves, eye protection, ear plugs, steel-toe footwear, and non-slip shoes.
