Pokagon State Park

The Pokagon State Park is named to acknowledge the rich Native American heritage of the state and region. It is framed by Lake James and Snow Lake, offering opportunities for boating, swimming, fishing, and scenic sunsets. It is also a favorite winter destination for cross-country skiing, sledding, twin-track tobogganing, ice fishing, and a twin-track toboggan run.

Salary Statement

The hourly wage for seasonal positions varies, starting at $12.25/hour.

A Day In The Life

  • Attendants: Provides quality customer service at assigned property station. Main responsibilities include collection of revenue from fees and permits, and cash/credit card handling duties.
  • Concessions: Provides quality customer service at concession stands, beach houses, or other locations as needed. Includes the sale of location specific items (firewood, food, rentals, etc.), handling cash/credit payments, collection of fees & permits, and inventory reporting.
  • Housekeepers: Works to maintain and clean property buildings, grounds, and facilities. Duties include regular deep cleaning of restrooms, showers, and other property buildings.
  • Laborers: Works to maintain and repair property buildings, grounds, and facilities. Possible duties may include landscaping, mowing, firewood processing, structure maintenance, sign creation, trail upkeep, carpentry, and plumbing, based on property needs.
  • Office Assistants: Answers inquiries about the property and provides quality customer service to the park visitors. Assists property management with operations and administrative functions.
  • Clerks: Performs a wide variety of tasks to support property staff. Duties may include inventory, stocking, reporting, budgeting, and assisting with other administrative duties.
  • Security Officers: Monitors the activities of visitors and reports problems to property management or other authorities. Patrols the property and enforces regulations in a courteous, but firm manner. Provides security to facilities, construction sites, and logging operations as needed, including late-night visits to areas prone to vandalism, disturbances, and illegal activities.
  • DOC Crew Supervisors: Monitors the activities of individuals that are a part of the Department of Corrections work release crew and participates in labor duties as needed. Provides transportation for the crew.
  • Shooting Range Officers (Brookville Lake Only): Monitors the activities of visitors using the shooting range while providing quality customer service and education on safe gun handling. Enforces shooting range standard operating procedures and provides basic maintenance to ensure the safety of visitors and staff.

What You'll Need For Success

  • Work afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • May be required to wear a DNR-provided uniform.
  • May be required to travel to different properties.
  • May experience working in potentially inclement weather.
  • May experience working with DOC work release crews.
  • May be required to have a valid driver’s license.
  • May work around potentially dangerous heavy equipment (e.g. tractors, disks, mowers, planters, etc.).

Benefits Of Employment With The State Of Indiana

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
