Responsibilities
- Assist with daily care and maintenance of exotic animals
- Support research projects and exhibit modifications
- Maintain a professional attitude and appearance for visitors, volunteers, and co-workers
- Work indoors and outdoors under all environmental conditions and temperatures
- Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds frequently
- Ascend/descend ladders, steps, and uneven terrain while maintaining body equilibrium
- Detect, assess, and observe surroundings to make sound judgments
- Communicate verbally and comprehend information accurately using two-way radios and telephones
- Follow Universal Protection Precautions and Bloodborne Pathogens Guidelines
Requirements
- Prefer at least one (1) year of working experience with elephants and/or at least two (2) years' work experience in a zoo or other animal care institution
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Life Sciences, Zoology, or a related field is highly desired but not required
- Physical strength and stamina to perform very heavy work
- Exceptional visual acuity
- Possible occupational exposure (Category B employee) to human bloodborne pathogens and dangerous chemicals (e.g., chlorine bleach, cleaning agents)
- Valid driver's license and driving record insurable by our carrier
Pay
$13.00 per hour
Schedule
- Seasonal, temporary assignment expected to last approximately six (6) months
- 40 hours per week
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
