Seasonal Part Time - SDSU Bookstore Merchandising Clerk

Summary

Under routine direction, assist in the placement of goods on the salesfloor and satellite operations, event setups and takedowns, and stockroom organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain visual merchandise standards and guidelines to support brand consistency on the sales floor and in the stockroom.
• Assist in replenishment of merchandise in all locations.
• Assist in stockroom organization and space utilization.
• Execute mark-ups and mark-downs as instructed.
• Notify buying groups of problems with merchandise arrivals.
• Set-up and take-down of merchandise for on-site and off-site events.
• Assist with cleanliness of the stockroom.

Minimum Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least one year retail/customer service experience required.
• Related experience and/or advanced training or equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Valid driver's license required; no more than three moving violations or accidents (or combination thereof) in the past 12 months.
• Must be at least 18 years of age and provide proof of driving eligibility upon hire.

• Ability to read, write and understand English.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, subordinates, vendors, other departments, customers and the general public.
• Ability to apply basic math concepts; calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages; add, subtract, multiply and divide.
• Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out general written or oral instructions.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize work and pay attention to detail.
• Manual dexterity to raise, manipulate, maneuver tools, components and materials; handle a variety of items, equipment, control knobs, switches, etc.; use a computer terminal.
• Ability to talk, express and exchange ideas and hear/perceive sounds.
• Ability to lift boxes; frequent standing, bending, stooping and/or walking/moving required.
• Ability to move and lift or carry heavy objects, equipment or materials up to 50 pounds.
• Specific visual abilities include close vision for reading receiving delivery and inventory information.

Working Conditions

• Work is regularly performed in a basement that may be dimly lit with exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, dust and airborne particles.
• Employee works with and near moving mechanical parts.
• Some risk of occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and gases, outside varying weather conditions such as dust, allergens, work temperatures and noise.
• Position requires on-site presence; not eligible for remote work.
• Candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule including opening, mid-day, and closing shifts, as well as night shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Pay

$18.00 per hour
