About the role

Seasonal Scale/Probe Operators are essential to delivering excellent service and maintaining smooth grain receiving operations. This position performs a variety of work associated with the scale, probe, or in an office environment. The target hire date is 8/24/2026.

Responsibilities

  • Weigh trucks in/out and record information.
  • Take grain samples and perform grading tests where applicable.
  • Electronically record grades, splits, and other required information.
  • Direct trucks to appropriate locations.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with customers while keeping operations efficient.
  • Complete documentation accurately and legibly.
  • Label and store samples according to facility protocol.
  • Perform general clean-up of scale/probe house work area.
  • Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre-shift meetings.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable), including wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Other duties as assigned (this job will not perform duties located outside the operation).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Grain grader and/or weighing certificate; if not obtained before hire, must obtain in time applicable to perform job duties.
  • Preferred: 1 year’s experience working in an industrial environment with a dependable work record.

Physical Demands & Requirements

  • Ability to balance constantly/continuously.
  • Ability to bend and stoop occasionally.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel, and squat frequently to constantly/continuously.
  • Ability to climb stairs, where applicable.
  • Ability to concentrate on tasks without becoming distracted, constantly/continuously.
  • Ability to distinguish grade, color, odor, and damage characteristics in grain samples, where applicable.
  • Ability to distinguish differences or similarities in odors using the nose.
  • Ability to enter information into a computer.
  • Ability to grasp and reach constantly/continuously.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in person and over two-way radio.
  • Ability to lift 3 lb. samples above the shoulder frequently, where applicable.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs. occasionally to continuously depending on daily needs.
  • Ability to meet requirements of and utilize all applicable PPE.
  • Ability to meet requirements of PFT and fit testing, when applicable.
  • Ability to stand and walk constantly/continuously.
  • Ability to stand or sit constantly/continuously.
  • Ability to understand and communicate verbally, in person, and over two-way radio (including recognizing emergency alarms).
  • Ability to understand and communicate written instructions.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and/or alternate shifts as needed.
  • Ability to work in an environment with high dust levels.
  • Acutely aware of surroundings with the ability to quickly adjust to signals or changes in the environment.
  • Uses near, far, and peripheral vision and depth perception for tasks being performed; may need to identify problems with grain.

Environmental Conditions

  • Work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Frequently required to use personal protective equipment.
  • Travel: 5%-20% may be required at some facilities, including off-site training and/or work at alternate locations.

Pay

The pay rate starts at $17/hour. The expected base pay range for this role is $16.00 - $16.00. Actual pay offered may vary depending on work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and relevant experience.
