Seasonal Certified Athletic Trainer (Staff Wage)

About the role

The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is seeking a Seasonal Certified Athletic Trainer to support the Sports Medicine program. This is a 10-month, hourly wage position intended for those who have completed their undergraduate or entry-level Master's degree in a Sports Medicine program and are seeking experience in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities

The Seasonal Certified Athletic Trainer will assist the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, referral, and rehabilitation of injuries/illnesses to student athletes. Specific duties include:

• Assisting in the daily health care of student-athletes
• Recording and maintaining appropriate medical records for treatment given
• Interfacing with various internal and external personnel for referral purposes and information exchange
• Transporting student athletes to physician appointments
• Providing support in the administrative management of the Sports Medicine unit, including assisting in the coverage of sports camps
• Other miscellaneous job-related duties as deemed necessary by the Senior Associate AD for Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer

Requirements

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree by July 2026, be a Certified Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification, and have First Aid/CPR certifications. Candidates must be eligible for VA athletic training licensure and have a valid driver's license with a positive point balance and personal transportation.

Skills

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of NCAA, ACC, and institutional rules and regulations, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community. They will also demonstrate genuine concern and interest for the welfare of student-athletes, ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures, and knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include certifications such as CES, PES, FMS, cupping, and/or Graston. The candidate will also have physical demands that include standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching, and repetitive motion.

Pay

Anticipated compensation is $19.00/hour. This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year.

Schedule

The position is from August 10, 2026 – June 18, 2027, and we are looking to fill 1 position for the 2026-2027 academic year: Track & Field.
