Seamanship Instructor - Professional Expert

Representative Duties

  • Teach boating and seamanship courses in navigation, marine weather, cruising, first aid/CPR, USCG approved courses, radar, diesel and outboard maintenance, fiberglass repair, marine paint and varnish, and marlinespike.
  • Deliver classes to a wide variety of mostly adult students in a community boating and/or professional development class environment.
  • Manage registration paperwork.
  • Develop curriculum.
  • Participate in course approval processes (if applicable).
  • Use simulators (if applicable).
  • Market courses.

Qualifications And Physical Demands

  • Education, work experience, and/or training in related job categories is required, including valid licenses and/or certifications.
  • Must have a positive, enthusiastic, and flexible attitude.
  • Strong presentation skills are required.

Education And Experience

  • Level 1 – Instruct beginning/intermediate level courses.
  • Level 2 – Instruct intermediate/advanced level courses.
  • Level 3 – Instruct advanced level course.
  • Advanced topic knowledge and significant teaching experience.
  • Ability to develop curriculum.
  • Level 4 – Approved instructor for USCG approved courses.

Conditions Of Employment

The District reserves the right to extend, modify, or eliminate this position based upon available funds. The effective dates of employment will be arranged with the supervisor. This is a recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill temporary/short-term assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or Divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary/short-term assignments as the need arises. Applications will remain in the pool for one year. You will be contacted by the hiring manager should the department/division be interested in scheduling an interview.
