Albany based Secure Detention facility with Together for Youth.
About the role
Provide an initial health assessment of youth entering the facility, including health history, physical exams, and laboratory tests. Deliver treatment for emergency and/or serious acute health conditions. Ensure nursing services, treatment, and continuity of care for all residents in conjunction with other practitioners to address health needs in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments, including HIV risk assessments, intake assessments, general first aid, and triage activities.
- Perform routine screening for substance abuse, developmental health, mental health, and physical body checks for abuse.
- Provide routine management and training regarding health education.
- Train staff about youth medical issues.
- Administer and manage medication, including reconciliation.
- Maintain medical supplies and equipment.
- Practice proper infection control.
- Follow up after medical appointments, community provider visits, urgent/emergency care, or hospitalization.
- Ensure compliance with state and agency laws and regulations.
- Provide telephone and tele-health on-call support to the facility.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
- Current New York State Registered Nurse license and CPR/First Aid certification.
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience; experience with at-risk youth preferred.
- Case Management experience is a plus.
- Flexible schedule with ability to provide weekend, holiday, and on-call coverage.
- Current, valid driver’s license per Agency guidelines; travel required.
- Ability to work with a culturally and economically diverse population.
Skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and follow detailed oral or written instructions.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of nursing techniques, procedures, practices, and theory.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, infection control measures, and safety principles.

Pay
$42 hourly.
Schedule
19 hours weekly for per diem. Saturday and Sunday from 8am–4pm, occasional weekday evenings.
