About the role

The scribe, under the supervision of the physician or mid-level provider, assists in documentation of the medical chart for each patient during office visits and office procedures. Transcribes verbal orders for labs, imaging, medications, and surgical procedures as directed by the provider. Assists in the office as needed under the direction of the manager.

Responsibilities

  • Transcribes accurate medical documentation, diagnosis, discharge, or follow-up instructions as designated by the provider.
  • Transcribes verbal orders according to policy and enters patient orders as designated by the provider without error; seeks guidance when necessary.
  • Assists in organizing the provider’s workflow by maintaining a comprehensive list of active patients, prepping charts at least 48 hours in advance, and verifying all required testing is complete with results accessible.
  • Supports the implementation of clinical changes and evidence-based practices.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of care standards reflecting professional and accrediting guidelines; recognizes personal accountability for adherence.
  • Stays informed regarding changes in policy and procedure.
  • Tailors care to meet age-specific and developmentally appropriate patient needs.
  • Follows established safety guidelines to reduce the risk of adverse events through early recognition.
  • Commits to a Culture of Safety: reports concerns promptly ("If you see something, say something").
  • Delivers high-quality care by committing to efficient, effective, and purposeful work.
  • Engages in practices that continually improve processes.
  • Demonstrates service etiquette by greeting patients using the 10/5 rule, maintaining a calm and positive attitude, ensuring patient privacy, and promoting a healing environment.
  • Adjusts approach to respect patient diversity and manages expectations of care.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent with 1-3 years' experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Medical terminology required; familiarity with electronic medical records preferred.
  • Above-average typing skills and proficiency in English usage, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Positive, service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Medical Assistance training/certification required.

Working Conditions

  • Stand/Walk: 6-8 hours
  • Sit: 1-4 hours
  • Bend, squat, climb, reach, lift, carry, push, or pull: up to 1/3 of the time
  • Precise motor function (fine manipulation) required for both hands.
  • Gross motor function required for both feet.
  • Lift up to 10 pounds: 1/3 or more of the time.
  • Some travel required.
