Duties
- Inspect incoming customer loads for acceptable and non-acceptable materials.
- Maintain a broad and working knowledge of different types of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
- Identify and grade inbound scrap and reject unacceptable items.
- Direct customer traffic to the appropriate collection sites.
- Communicate clearly with the weighmaster and machine operator for each load.
- Sort materials for processing as directed and move items to designated storage areas daily.
- Absorb and unload materials for customers one at a time.
- Clean and maintain work area daily.
Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED Certification, or equivalent work experience.
- 1-year previous general labor in the scrap metal or construction industries preferred.
- Ability to use a computer tablet.
- Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
- Ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
- Ability to learn new tasks as assigned required.
- Must pass a Background Check.
- Must pass pre employment physical and Drug Screen.
Physical Requirements
- Be capable of being on their feet most of the day.
- Work Environment: Scrap metal yard, outdoor all-weather conditions.
- Stand and walk frequently on uneven ground and throughout the yard.
- Carry, lift, and carry out physical labor.
- Push and pull occasionally when moving materials.
- Crouch or bend at the knees consistently to move or access materials or equipment.
- Stoop or bend at the waist consistently to move materials.
- Reach at arm’s length and overhead frequently.
- Twist and turn at the neck and trunk continually.
- Climb occasionally when obtaining items.
- Handle, grasp, and manipulate materials constantly.
- Communicate clearly by speech and hearing continually.
- Possess visual acuity needed for close detail work and documentation.
- Possess mental dexterity to work independently while demonstrating attention to detail and continuous awareness of their environment.
