About the role
CHA Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Scientist V – Hazardous Building Materials to join our Environmental Team in Albany, NY. In this role, you will serve as a technical lead for projects involving hazardous building materials—guiding project execution from planning through delivery and contributing to solutions that support infrastructure, compliance, and sustainability initiatives across diverse markets.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical execution of major environmental projects focused on asbestos and hazardous building materials abatement—from concept through completion—by planning, scheduling, and coordinating detailed project phases
- Prepare abatement plans and related technical specifications in compliance with OSHA, EPA, AHERA, NESHAP, TSCA, ICR 56, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations for a variety of clients
- Guide and mentor junior to mid-level scientists, fostering growth and technical excellence while ensuring compliance with client standards and providing quality control
- Oversee the preparation of large, complex environmental data sets, technical reports, and design tasks for environmental projects
- Lead the development of assessment reports and other reporting elements, as well as external presentations for clients, the public, and regulatory agencies
- Aid in proposal development, including cost estimates and business development initiatives
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field required
- Minimum of 10 years of related experience required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word & Excel required
- Ability to read architectural renovation and demolition drawings with knowledge of building systems (HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, insulation, and building materials)
- Proficient theoretical scientific knowledge and ability to work in a team environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as time-management skills
- Valid driver’s license required
- NYSDOL Certified Asbestos Building Inspector and Asbestos Project Designer required
- NYSDOL Certified Asbestos Project Monitor, USEPA Lead Inspector and Risk Assessor, and/or NYSDOL Article 32 Mold Assessor preferred

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
