About the role

Eurofins Scientific is a global leader in analytical testing, operating over 950 labs in 60 countries with 65,000 employees. In this role, you will conduct interpretation (identification) of LCMS and/or GCMS extractable data for medical device chemical characterization under ISO 10993-18. This high-throughput, moderate-paced work is primarily on-site but offers location flexibility as needed.

Example workflow: A client sends medical devices for FDA approval. The analytical team extracts the devices in various solvents, analyzes the extracts by LCMS and GCMS (and other techniques), and identifies all peaks (extractables) above a specified reporting limit. These extractables are assessed by a toxicologist for safety/risk.

Relevant software includes Compound Discoverer, Trace Finder, Unknowns Analysis, and Mass Hunter. Employees must comply with ISO 27001 standards and company information security requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and identify LCMS and/or GCMS extractable data for medical device chemical characterization.
  • Analyze high-resolution data to identify unknown compounds above reporting limits.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 27001 and company information security protocols.
  • Maintain proficiency in relevant software (e.g., Compound Discoverer, Mass Hunter).
  • Communicate findings clearly and accurately in written and verbal formats.

Requirements

  • MS degree in Chemistry or related field with 3+ years of industry experience, or PhD in Chemistry or related field with 2+ years of industry experience.
  • Hands-on experience with LCMS and/or GCMS data interpretation (instrument operation alone is insufficient).
  • Familiarity with laboratory techniques and method development/validation processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and critical observation skills.

Skills

What would set you apart:

  • Experience with Thermo LCMS or Agilent GCMS data interpretation.
  • Proficiency in Compound Discoverer (LCMS) or Unknowns Analysis (GCMS).
  • Experience with high-resolution data and unknown compound identification.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain stationary for 80% of the time.
  • Capability to operate a computer or lab equipment continuously for 4+ hours.
  • Dexterity to handle small/fragile devices with tweezers or fingers.
  • Close-distance visual acuity (with or without correction).

  • Ability to lift/move equipment or items up to 50 lbs.
  • Capacity to learn new tasks, maintain focus, work independently, and meet productivity quotas.
  • Clear communication skills for accurate information exchange in various settings.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
