About the role

The Leon Root Motion Analysis Laboratory at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan, New York is seeking a research scientist at an instructor level to work in a competitive research laboratory. This position involves designing and developing sophisticated musculoskeletal models for research in shoulder biomechanics modeling, particularly in the area of shoulder joint arthroplasty.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with scientists, biomechanical engineers, and orthopaedic surgeons to develop musculoskeletal models for research in shoulder biomechanics.
  • Manage all aspects of research projects, including study design and setup, complex computer simulations, manuscript and report writing, and advanced data and statistical analyses.
  • Work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary research team to develop and automate joint arthroplasty musculoskeletal models, Finite Element Analysis methods, and integrate imaging and functional data into customized models.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in MATLAB and Python code development, and have experience in shoulder biomechanical modeling and Finite Element Analysis.
  • Have experience using Mimics (or other imaging 3D reconstruction software).

Requirements

  • A minimum PhD in Biomechanics.
  • At least 2 years of post-doctoral training.
  • Preferred experience in musculoskeletal modeling.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in musculoskeletal modeling and Finite Element Analysis.
  • Experience working with MATLAB and Python code development.
  • Experience with shoulder biomechanical modeling.
  • Experience with Mimics (or other imaging 3D reconstruction software).

Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of musculoskeletal modeling and Finite Element Analysis.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and Python programming languages.
  • Experience with shoulder biomechanical modeling.
  • Experience with imaging 3D reconstruction software such as Mimics.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation.
