Scientist III - Flow Technology

Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking a talented and innovative Scientist III to join our Flow Technology department at our Ridgefield, CT facility. The role involves designing and executing research supporting R&D and process development projects in both batch and flow technology. You will actively contribute to the discovery, development, and delivery of products to patients and customers, collaborating internationally within a global organization.

About the role

As a Scientist III, you will independently perform laboratory and scale-up activities, applying chemical engineering principles with minimal supervision. Your work will ensure compliance with safety, quality, and cGMP requirements while contributing to the success of cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Initiate and complete experiments independently and efficiently.
• Prepare and interpret data packages accurately; propose and implement follow-up experiments to solve scientific problems.
• Stay current with literature in your field and explore new experimental protocols with supervision.
• Communicate your work effectively in oral and written forms, including presentations at group/project meetings.
• Assist in supervising and training technicians and junior scientists as needed.
• Demonstrate understanding of individual goals within the context of overall project objectives.
• Work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
• Utilize new technologies to improve lab productivity.
• Apply process modeling to batch and continuous processes.
• Understand process economics, timelines, environmental (green chemistry), and process safety issues.
• Contribute to publications and patents.
• Comply with applicable regulations, ensuring all work is performed safely and maintaining proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree from an accredited institution with three-plus (3+) years of experience in a related scientific discipline, OR Bachelor’s Degree with seven-plus (7+) years of experience in a related field or equivalent.
• Demonstrated successful independent chemistry laboratory and pilot-scale experience, with understanding of multiple technologies required for process scale-up and API manufacturing.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in interdisciplinary environments.
• Ability to work in a team environment, provide training, and guide laboratory personnel.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $90,000 to $147,000 USD. The role may also be eligible for a discretionary bonus, relocation assistance, and other compensation elements. Actual compensation will be based on skills, experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
