About the role
The position involves maintaining an Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with DOE standards/requirements, conducting site inspections, and managing waste for off-site disposal. The role includes coordinating with the DOE and LATA contractor departments, leading EMS meetings, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives, supporting pollution prevention and site sustainability efforts, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and preparing environmental reports.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with the DOE and LATA contractor departments in development, tracking, and status of environmental targets and objectives.
- Conduct routine meetings and coordinate with other departments in conducting EMS functions.
- Maintain spreadsheets of activities and update the status of current EMS targets.
- Support the Pollution Prevention Program.
- Manage and track EMS objectives, performance metrics, and compliance activities.
- Lead EMS meetings, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state environmental regulations (e.g., RCRA, NEPA, EPCRA).
- Sample and manage hazardous and low-level waste in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and support environmental reports and required regulatory submissions.
- Aid in the development of environmental procedures, plans, and documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Science, Engineering, or equivalent area.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in the area of EMS.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other individuals and project groups.
- Attention to detail.
- Initiative is required.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office to prepare Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and reports.
Skills
- Environmental law and regulations knowledge.
- MS Office proficiency.
Pay
$71,204.70 - $128,153.70 /Yr.
Schedule
Regular performance of duties in the underground environment at the WIPP site.
