About the role
The Biocatalysis group at *** is seeking an experienced researcher to support molecular biology capabilities in service of enzyme, therapeutic protein, and peptide engineering efforts that enable drug discovery and development.
Responsibilities
- Support DNA-related workflows, including gene library construction, cloning, high-throughput DNA preparation, and sequencing, in support of protein-directed evolution efforts.
- Manage daily work independently, without close supervision.
- Ensure accurate experimental records and prepare clear reports.
- Maintain data organization and traceability.
- Comfortable managing multiple concurrent activities in a dynamic research environment.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field with 4+ years of relevant experience, a master’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD in a related discipline.
- Hands-on experience with core molecular biology techniques, including DNA cloning, DNA purification, PCR, primer design, mutagenesis, DNA sequencing and analysis, gel electrophoresis, bacterial transformation, and culture.
- Ability to independently plan and execute molecular cloning workflows with limited oversight.
- Experience with DNA sequencing technologies, including Sanger sequencing, and sequencing data analysis.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple experiments, maintain accurate experimental reports, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and a consistent record of maintaining complete documentation.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
Preferred Skills
- Proven ability to recognize experimental issues early, investigate root causes, communicate findings, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Familiarity with molecular biology software tools such as Geneious, Benchling, or similar.
- Experience with high throughput screening, automated liquid handling, and sample preparation platforms.
- Programming skills, such as Python, are a plus.
Key Skills
- Core responsibilities include plasmid mini preps, wet lab molecular biology work, DNA sequencing submission/analysis, communication with project teams, and limited lab stock/order management.
- Required experience should center on molecular biology, cloning, PCR, following vendor kit protocols, wet lab skills, organization, prioritization, and strong communication.
- Sequence analysis, Benchling/Geneious experience, liquid handling, lab management exposure, curiosity, troubleshooting, and multidisciplinary skills are considered nice-to-have, not mandatory.
- Ideal education/background includes a master’s degree, a bachelor’s with strong relevant industry experience, or possibly an early-career PhD if not overqualified.
