About the role
The Scientific Specialist, Historic Architecture will conduct historical research on architectural and archaeological resources encountered during investigations for Illinois State Archaeological Survey (ISAS) and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).
Responsibilities
- Conduct historical research on architectural and archaeological resources encountered during investigations for ISAS and IDOT.
- Identify and evaluate those eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places in accordance with the rules and regulations of the National Historic Preservation Act (16 U.S.C. 470) and its implementing regulations (36 CFR 61, Appendix A) and the Illinois State Agency Historic Resources Preservation Act (20 ILCS 3420).
Requirements
- Master's degree in archaeology, history, architecture, or related field.
- Experience conducting historical research on architectural and archaeological resources.
- Knowledge of the National Historic Preservation Act and Illinois State Agency Historic Resources Preservation Act.
Qualifications
- Strong analytical and writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with GIS software.
- Knowledge of surveying techniques.

Pay
- $50,000 - $60,000 annually.
Schedule
- Full-time position.
Position will be based in either Champaign or Jacksonville, Illinois.
