Science Teacher - Berg Middle School - 2026-2027 School Year

The Newton Community School District is accepting applications for a Science Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The position is located at Berg Middle School and will start in August 2026.

About the role

• Teach science courses to students in grades 5-12
• Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with state standards
• Assess student learning through various methods including quizzes, tests, and projects
• Maintain classroom discipline and ensure a safe learning environment
• Collaborate with other teachers and staff to enhance curriculum and support student success
• Participate in professional development opportunities to stay updated on best teaching practices

Responsibilities

• Teach science courses to students in grades 5-12

Requirements

• Hold or be in the process of obtaining a current Iowa Teaching License in the following endorsements areas: 5-12 Science - Basic (1541), K-8 Science (150), 5-12 Earth Science (153)

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Science or related field
• At least two years of teaching experience preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students

Skills

• Effective classroom management skills
• Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
• Knowledge of current educational technology and resources
