Part-time, temporary position from September 2026 to April 2027 supporting the Director of Scientific Research in the Upper School Science department.
Responsibilities
- Train students to safely work in the BSL-2 lab
- Directly supervise student research
- Clean and maintain the BSL-2 lab
- Operate autoclave equipment
- Provide supply lists to the Director for ordering
- Maintain records of lab use and student training
- Work with students to schedule time-sensitive BSL-2 lab work
- Support students in troubleshooting research challenges
- Assist with science fair paperwork and preparation
- Provide students with constructive feedback
- Assist in planning and preparing the School Science Fair
- Chaperone Regional (typically February) and State Science Fair (typically March, includes overnight stay in Lakeland)
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a science-related field, either completed or in pursuit
- Experience in microbiology research
- Experience working with or supervising adolescents
- Must pass a background check, fingerprinting, and complete the Safeguarding God’s Children class
Training
- Safeguarding God's Children (upon hire)
- BSL-2 level training (upon hire)
Schedule
- Part-time, temporary position (September 2026 – April 2027)
- Varies; requires weekday and weekend availability, including some school holidays
- Typical hours: 11:30 AM – 5:30 PM
- Anticipated start date: September/October 2026 (for onboarding and training)
