Part-time, temporary position from September 2026 to April 2027 supporting the Director of Scientific Research in the Upper School Science department.

Responsibilities

  • Train students to safely work in the BSL-2 lab
  • Directly supervise student research
  • Clean and maintain the BSL-2 lab
  • Operate autoclave equipment
  • Provide supply lists to the Director for ordering
  • Maintain records of lab use and student training
  • Work with students to schedule time-sensitive BSL-2 lab work
  • Support students in troubleshooting research challenges
  • Assist with science fair paperwork and preparation
  • Provide students with constructive feedback
  • Assist in planning and preparing the School Science Fair
  • Chaperone Regional (typically February) and State Science Fair (typically March, includes overnight stay in Lakeland)

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a science-related field, either completed or in pursuit
  • Experience in microbiology research
  • Experience working with or supervising adolescents
  • Must pass a background check, fingerprinting, and complete the Safeguarding God’s Children class

Training

  • Safeguarding God's Children (upon hire)
  • BSL-2 level training (upon hire)

Schedule

  • Part-time, temporary position (September 2026 – April 2027)
  • Varies; requires weekday and weekend availability, including some school holidays
  • Typical hours: 11:30 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Anticipated start date: September/October 2026 (for onboarding and training)
