About the Role

Join a dedicated educational team at Ella T. Grasso Technical High School in Groton, CT, as a Science Instructor (Chemistry). In this role, you will create engaging and rigorous learning experiences that support students with diverse learning needs while fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and a strong foundation in high school science. The ideal candidate will bring strong content knowledge, effective instructional practices, and a passion for helping students succeed in both individual and collaborative learning environments.

You will design and implement purposeful lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and instructional goals, utilizing differentiated strategies and varied assessment methods to support all learners. Collaboration with guidance staff, special education personnel, and support service educators is essential to ensure accommodations and individualized supports are successfully implemented. This role also requires a commitment to professional growth, reflective teaching practices, and ongoing communication with students and families.

Responsibilities

• Planning and Preparation:
  • Develop lesson plans with clear objectives, appropriate techniques, and differentiation to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Science content and pedagogy in content-specific high school Science curricula.
  • Understand and address the varied needs of each student.
  • Collaborate with guidance personnel and support service educators to implement IEP and 504 accommodations/modifications.
  • Set instructional goals and outcomes.
  • Design instructional learning opportunities and assessments.
• Classroom Environment:
  • Develop mutual respect and rapport with students.
  • Establish a culture for learning.
  • Manage classroom procedures and student behavior.
  • Organize physical space to maximize learning opportunities.
• Instruction:
  • Effectively communicate with students using inquiry, questioning, and discussion techniques.
  • Keep students intellectually engaged.
  • Follow the scope and sequence of the approved CTECS instructional program and curriculum.
  • Design instruction to meet the needs of all students through individual and small group settings.
  • Utilize ongoing assessments to design clear and specific learning tasks.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness.
• Professional Responsibilities:
  • Reflect on teaching practices and maintain accurate records.
  • Maintain effective and ongoing communication with students and their families.
  • Participate in building and district-level professional development and collaboration.
  • Engage in professional communities and demonstrate growth in professional craft.
  • Adhere to the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility.
  • Implement CTECS Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations, and directives.
  • Maintain confidentiality concerning personnel, student, and operational concerns.
  • Report all cases of suspected child abuse to appropriate personnel and authorities.

Requirements

• Active State of Connecticut Teaching Certificate in 031 Chemistry or qualification for a Durational Shortage Area Permit (DSAP).
• Well-versed in high school science curricula.
• Experience with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning.
• Experience with classroom management and behavior intervention plans.
• Proficiency in delivering ideas and objectives through oral and written communication.
• Experience utilizing computer software such as Microsoft Office and Google Products.

Pay

Salary: VS01-VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.

Schedule

• First shift, full time (35 hours per week), Monday through Friday.
• Ten-month academic calendar (188 days per year).
