About the role

The ideal candidate will bring strong content knowledge, effective instructional practices, and a passion for helping students succeed in both individual and collaborative learning environments. You will design and implement purposeful lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and instructional goals, utilizing differentiated strategies and varied assessment methods to support all learners.

Collaboration is essential: you will work closely with guidance staff, special education personnel, and support service educators to ensure accommodations and individualized supports are successfully implemented. The role also requires a commitment to professional growth, reflective teaching practices, and ongoing communication with students and families.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned Science (Biology/Chemistry) lessons for high school students.
• Differentiate instruction and assessments to meet the needs of all learners, including those with IEPs and 504 plans.
• Foster a positive, respectful classroom culture that promotes intellectual engagement and active participation.
• Manage classroom procedures and student behavior effectively.
• Collaborate with guidance, special education, and support staff to implement accommodations and modifications.
• Participate in professional learning communities, district committees, and ongoing professional development.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate regularly with students and families.
• Uphold the mission, policies, and values of CTECS while maintaining a safe, ethical, and student-centered environment.
• Report suspected child abuse to appropriate personnel and authorities.

Requirements

• Active Connecticut Teaching Certificate in one of the following areas:
  • 030 Biology, grades 4–12
  • 031 Chemistry, grades 4–12
• Strong content knowledge in Biology and/or Chemistry.
• Experience with differentiated instruction and varied assessment methods.
• Commitment to professional growth and reflective teaching practices.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families.

Schedule

• First shift, full-time (35 hours per week).
• Monday through Friday.
• 10-month academic calendar (188 days per year).

Pay

Salary range: VS01-VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.
