School to Work - Purchasing

This role is based at our Cummins Inc. facility in Troy, MI, and primarily supports the North American Steel Purchasing team. You’ll gain insight into manufacturing and the steel industry while contributing to key purchasing activities.

Responsibilities

• Create Request for Quote bid packages to drive cost-reduction initiatives.
• Support transition activities into Cummins processes for seamless integration.
• Maintain and update Oracle purchase orders to ensure procurement accuracy.
• Research and create supplier add forms to expand the global supplier network.
• Assist cross-functional teams with the requisition process to streamline operations.
• Provide general support to team members as needed.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency.
• Ensure data accuracy in all tasks to support decision-making.
• Assist in the preparation and development of negotiation strategies.
• Prepare RFQ packages and support quote analysis, technical reviews, and supplier selection.
• Track and update monthly raw material indices.
• Validate pricing and update purchase orders.
• Support buyers in resolving invoice and payment discrepancies.
• Analyze and maintain supplier data.

Requirements

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Business Management, Supply Chain, Logistics, Data Analytics, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools for data analysis, report creation, and presentations.
• Ability to learn on the job in a dynamic environment while balancing multiple priorities.
• Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively within teams.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation development.
• Demonstrated teamwork and ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $17.60 to $25.30 per hour.

The primary role of this School-to-Work position is to support the direct Purchasing team on various programs, update procedures, and work with cross-functional internal and external customers and suppliers. You’ll gain real-world experience in material management and data analytics within a business-to-business environment.
