School Security Specialist

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service.
• Guard posts at entry/exit points of client buildings and grounds.
• Conduct foot and/or vehicle patrols of interior and exterior grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment.
• Ensure unauthorized persons do not enter restricted areas.
• Check for employee, vendor, and visitor identifications.
• Look for suspicious people, packages, and activities.
• Follow site-specific post guidelines.
• Document daily activities and report all incidents.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED), per MCL 338.106717(2).
• Must not have been convicted of any felonies, per MCL 338.106010(1)(c).
• Must not have been convicted of any misdemeanors related to dishonesty, fraud, impersonation of law enforcement, assault, weapons, unauthorized sale of information or evidence, controlled substances (including for marijuana), or two or more alcohol-related offenses, per MCL 338.106010(1)(c).
• Must be able to pass a drug screening at the time of hire and randomly thereafter (including for marijuana).
• Must adhere to the company’s Uniform and Appearance policy and present a friendly, positive, and professional image.
• Must possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to de-escalate situations in a non-confrontational manner.
• Must be able to fluently read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
• If driving company or client vehicles, or using your own vehicle for work activities, must possess a valid State of Michigan driver’s license and have a clean driving record with less than 3 moving violations in the last 3 years, less than 2 at-fault accidents in the last 3 years, and no other major violations in the last 3 years.
• Must be willing to become CPR/First Aid/AED certified and capable of administering this care in emergency situations.
• Must be able to move quickly, including running short distances, to respond in emergency situations.
• Must be physically and mentally sound and able to remain alert while on duty.
• Must be able to sit, stand, move quickly to respond to emergencies, and walk long distances, including navigating stairs, for the duration of the shift (8–12 hours).
• Must be able to work indoors or outdoors during all seasons.
• Must be able to use hands and fingers to manipulate keys, tools, and other equipment.
• Must be able to hear conversations (in person or via 2-way radio) in noisy environments.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision.

Skills

• Experience working with school-aged children is highly preferred.

Schedule

• Mid Shift (1300–2100), Monday–Friday.

Pay

• $21.22 per hour.

This is a seasonal full-time position with a summer break from June through August. This is not an armed security position; weapons are not permitted on the premises, including in personal vehicles parked on the premises.
