Purpose Statement
The job of Psychologist is done for the purpose/s of measuring and interpreting the intellectual, adaptive, academic, social and emotional development of children; interpreting results of psychological studies; interpreting and applying state and federal codes; and developing strategies and interventions to address the special education needs of eligible students. This job reports to the Program Coordinator and/or the Executive Director of Special Services.
Essential Functions
- Counsels and leads problem-solving meetings.
- Conducts standardized assessments, completes documentation for initial and re-evaluations, and facilitates multidisciplinary teams to properly identify students with disabilities in adherence to state and federal requirements.
- Assists with data analysis at the student, class and building levels.
- Conducts Functional Behavior Assessments and assists with accommodations, modifications, and the creation of Behavior Intervention Plans.
- Provides individual/group counseling and social skills instruction as needed for students with disabilities.
- Conducts Section 504 evaluations and participates in student plan development.
- Participates in professional growth activities and demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility.
- Understands and adheres to all Board policies and procedures.
- Consults and collaborates with teachers, parents, and other district personnel regarding academic and behavioral supports for students.
- Participates in building and district procedures to support students (e.g., Response to Instruction, crisis intervention services (CPI), etc.).
- Researches resources and methods for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students’ functional goals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications: Must be working toward a terminal degree in school psychology and are required to seek a Temporary Authorization Certificate as a school psychologist in Missouri.
- Skills, Knowledge And Abilities: Applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including pertinent computer software; and preparing and maintaining accurate records. Understanding psychology and educational principles; and pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws.
Responsibilities
- Working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods.
- Leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others.
- Utilizing resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions.
School Psychology Interns
- Assist their supervisors with these duties under direct training and supervision.
- Supervision is tailored to individual needs and program requirements, two-hour group supervision sessions for all interns are offered monthly.
- All supervisors are Educational Specialist level school psychologists.
Education
- Minimum: Must be working toward a terminal degree in school psychology and are required to seek a Temporary Authorization Certificate as a school psychologist in Missouri.
