School Nurse

About the Role

Ensure a complete health services program for Uplift Education. Provide students with health services, incorporate them into health education programs, and teach preventive health practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide care to students (routine, urgent, emergent, palliative, etc.)
• Comply with all regulations and guidelines set by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON), local health authorities, and DSHS ill criteria
• Provide routine, urgent, and emergent care to students and staff according to Uplift Education's guidelines and Texas BON standards
• Provide basic health information to students and staff within Uplift Education's guidelines and as prescribed by the Texas BON
• Assist with enrollment, attend ARDs and 504 meetings; develop and implement Individualized Health Plans (IHPs) as necessary
• Collaborate with all departments across the network to ensure a safe environment for all students and staff
• Conduct health screenings for students as required by the Texas Department of Health, Texas Education Agency, and charter policy; make referrals as necessary
• Plan and implement an ongoing evaluation of Health Services programs and make adaptations based on results
• Instruct students and staff in safety, health, and wellness
• Conduct campus-level health trainings
• Administer vaccines according to the Texas Vaccines for Children (TVFC) Program guidelines
• Work collaboratively with school staff, physicians, parents, and the community
• Serve on the Crisis Intervention and Emergency Management Teams for the school
• Ensure compliance with all immunization records in accordance with State guidelines
• Abide by policies established by federal and state laws applicable to charter schools, Texas Department of Health rules, and Commission's Rules
• Delegate in accordance with the Texas BON
• Exercise professional judgment in decision-making

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program
• 1+ years of nursing experience as a registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse
• Valid Registered Nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas (preferred) or LVN license (required)
• Vision, Hearing, Spinal, and Acanthosis Nigricans Certification preferred
• American Heart Association BLS certification required; BLS Instructor preferred
• Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter
• Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization

Skills

• Communication Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and apply common sense understanding and carry out instructions in written or oral form in English. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, administrators, and other school personnel.
• Bilingual Skills: Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
• Technology: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook) and other computer software. Ability to use basic office equipment and learn new software as necessary.
• Knowledge of project management processes preferred.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, balance, and use wrists, hands, and/or fingers
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
• Work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods of time
• Exposure to bacteria and/or communicable diseases is possible

Work Environment

• Close proximity to other employees, frequent interruptions, extended periods of computer screen use, and moderate to high noise levels
• Travel within the Uplift network is required
• May require working outside in heat or cold
• Some weekend work required

Pay

Starting salary: $46,200 (LVN) / $59,000 (RN)
