School Nurse

About the role

Maintains compliance with state health department requirements for student immunizations.

Responsibilities

• Administers medications to non-self-directed students according to state education guidelines.
• Documents and observes students’ ability to achieve self-direction and provides treatment as prescribed by the primary care provider.
• Affirms students’ health suitability for attending school field trips.
• Collaborates with school staff in addressing medical emergencies.
• Maintains and monitors communicable diseases and conditions.
• Captures and reports data on services rendered.
• Provides health services to all school-age youth.
• Assesses, formulates nursing diagnoses, establishes nursing goals, creates individualized care plans, and evaluates student progress.
• Develops and implements individualized plans for students with special needs and follows student IEPs.
• Conducts required grade-level vision, hearing, body mass index, and scoliosis screenings.
• Utilizes a triage approach to care for sick and injured students.

Requirements

• Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities and strategic thinking.
• Strong diplomacy and collaborative skills, must be a strong facilitator and have the ability to work independently as well as within a matrix organization.
• Strong organizational skills, highly detail oriented.

Qualifications

• Technical/Vocational School degree.
• Associate’s of Nursing degree [Preferred]
• Bachelor’s of Nursing degree [Preferred]
• 3+ years of experience in pediatric care [Preferred]
• 5+ years of experience in nursing.

Skills

• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
• Basic Life Support – CPR Cert (BLS).

Pay

$20.04 - $54.92 per hour
