School Nurse

Qualifications Has completed a formal education program in nursing. Holds current state licensure. Has three (3) years of clinical practice, preferred. Has knowledge of community health agencies. Performance Responsibilities Provides direct and individualized nursing care to an assigned group of students based on the application of scientific principles. Shares responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care. Participates in team conferences, sharing knowledge, information and ideas among team members. Prepares, administers, and records medications in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed nurse. Communicates with the supervisor regarding patients’ physical condition, as needed. Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels of communication. Provides for professional nursing care of students and staff. Makes appropriate referrals, conducts health evaluations and responds to requests to make early detection of physical problems. Communicates to students and staff methods of disease prevention. Assists in promoting programs on health education and immunization. Maintains current, complete and accurate clinical records. Coordinates vision, hearing, dental and scoliosis screening and health assessment. Provides emergency aid to students and school staff. Assists teachers in instructing students in health and nutrition education. Performs related duties as required. Physical Requirements Medium Work: Lifting up to 20 pounds move objects. Other physical demands: Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, climbing, and balancing. Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling. Significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 60% standing and walking, and 40% sitting.
