Position Description: School Nurse Status: Part-time, exempt Hours: 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Monday – Friday Reports to: Head of School Start Date: September, 2026 Salary Range: $35/hour – $45/hour Location: Falmouth Academy, 7 Highfield Drive, Falmouth, MA 02540 Falmouth Academy is a small, independent co-educational day and 5- day boarding school on Cape Cod, serving students in grades 7 through 12. Position Summary Falmouth Academy seeks a dedicated and compassionate School Nurse to promote the health, safety, and overall well-being of our students and staff. The School Nurse manages daily health office operations, provides direct clinical care, oversees medication administration, and maintains accurate health records across grades 7–12. The ideal candidate brings strong clinical expertise, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for supporting adolescent health. We are looking for an approachable professional with excellent communication skills who thrives in an engaging, close-knit independent school community. This position is for the 2026–2027 academic year. Primary Responsibilities Clinical Care & Triage Assess and treat acute illnesses, physical injuries, and chronic health conditions (e.g., Type 1 diabetes, asthma, severe allergies) for students ages 12-18.Triage and provide initial care for orthopedic and athletic injuries sustained during physical education or afternoon sports. Provide a safe environment for students experiencing stress, anxiety, or panic, collaborating closely with the school counseling team. Medication & Treatment Administration Administer daily scheduled medications and specialized treatments in strict accordance with physician orders and parental consent. Dispense over-the-counter medications according to standing protocols and school-approved medical guidelines. Emergency Response Act as the primary medical responder for on-campus emergencies, administering CPR, AED, EpiPens, or other life-saving interventions.Coordinate with local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and school leadership during critical health crises. Administration & Communication Document every student visit, medication administration, and clinical intervention in the school’s secure electronic health record system.Promptly notify parents of significant injuries or illnesses and advise faculty on student health accommodations when necessary. Maintain comprehensive student health records, ensuring accurate immunization compliance, physical exam tracking, and strict state/federal confidentiality. Ensure the health room remains clean, sanitized, clinical waste is disposed of properly, and supplies are stocked. Required Qualifications And Skills Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Massachusetts. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in pediatrics, school health, emergency medicine, or urgent care. Current BLS/CPR/AED certification. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate compassionately and professionally with adolescents and parents. Ability to work independently. Excellent organizational skills.Ability to use technology efficiently.Successful completion of all mandatory school employment screenings, including state fingerprinting, CORI/background checks, and child abuse registry clearances. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a part-time 25-hour, exempt 10-month position that follows the academic calendar. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand and will be scheduled in advance. Attendance is required on professional development and parent-teacher conference days. The School Nurse is expected to attend Safety and Security Meetings and to serve on the Student Wellness Team.
