Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Performs registered nursing duties including administering first aid and screening of all students who become ill or injured, evaluations and proper referrals, and maintaining comprehensive health records and usual programs of screening.
  • Performs all registered-nurse and related duties in a conscientious, safe manner.
  • Provides care for accidents and illnesses of students, according to the policies set forth by the Board of Education.
  • Maintains all the files and records, including necessary reports covering all phases of the Medical Department’s work.
  • Establishes a student health program, as desired by the Board of Education, keeping in mind that the child’s health is the primary responsibility of the parent and not of the school district.
  • Affords assistance to teachers in recognizing symptoms of illness and infection.
  • Follows-up on the correction of defects.
  • Affords assistance to teachers with information and materials in health education.
  • Be available for emergencies.
  • Encourages compliance with immunization against other diseases.
  • Engages in health counseling—an important function of school nursing service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an appropriately accredited school of nursing, registered nurse (R.N. or L.P.N.) licensure in the State of Missouri.
  • Two years of nursing experience in various fields.

Physical Demands

  • Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exerts 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or prolongs periods of working on a computer.
  • Sufficient vision to read printed material, see distant objects with clarity, and identify and distinguish objects.
  • Sufficient hearing to hear conversations in person and on the telephone, and hear sounds clearly up to 20 feet.
  • Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation and on the telephone, and in addressing groups.
  • Requires occasional or frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching for extended periods of time.
  • The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and is generally a hazard free environment.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.
